pioneer day

wikipedia:

"pioneer day"

Pioneer Day (also archaically called the Day of Deliverance[1]) is an official Utah state holiday celebrated on July 24 in the U.S. state of Utah, with some celebrations in regions of surrounding states originally settled by Mormon pioneers. It commemorates the entry of Brigham Young and the first group of Mormon Pioneers into the Salt Lake Valley on July 24, 1847, where the Latter-day Saints settled after being forced from Nauvoo, Illinois and other locations in the eastern United States. Parades, fireworks, rodeos, and other festivities help commemorate the event.

amelia and i celebrated by visiting a shining example of pioneer heritage and legacy: eureka. we saw a cabin that belonged to porter rockwell, met the class president of tintic high school, and even played a bit of baseball.

llama fest

today we went to llama fest in spanish fork. i hadnt been since 2002, neither had ashleigh, neither had amelia.

llama fest was full of excitement. there was an area where you could buy llama treats and feed/pet/hug/be terrified by actual llamas.

there was a llama race. llamas hate racing.

there was mango juice served from buckets marked "for temple cleaning only". it was delicious.

but my favorite part was the llama obstacle course. what it is: some guy pulling around a llama trying to get him to step over things, climb in and out of vans and go up ramps. however, there was one part that seemed to give trouble to every llama...every time a llama would approach this obstacle, they would freeze and go no further...its was made of 3 archways, each draped with streamers and balloons, thus proving that llamas hate tunnels and birthday parties in addition to racing.

enjoy the picture show.

starting today:

i am going to start keeping a new blog about things that happen to me, people i know, and fun places i go to. im thinking maybe having it be more of a video journal. an example of this is the following, documenting a snowboarding excursion with my brother and sister about 5 months ago.
