the second post from my recent trip home to washington:

the monday after we arrived, amelia and i were off to seattle. since it was her first time in the city, i decided to pull out all the stops and wow her with seattles best attractions: the underground tour, pike place market and the seattle center. then we met up with my brother who was kind enough to show us some other fun places like the freemont troll, sculpture gardens, a lenin statue and the best view of seattle. in all, it was a lovely day. the best day of young amelia's life.

the bachelor party

oh man. i got back yesterday from quite possibly the greatest roadtrip i have ever taken. amelia and i went back to good old washington to relax and see some of what that glorious state has to offer. the trip itself will be shown in 3 different posts, so to start it off, i'll tell you about the main reason for the trip: rob got married. good for you, rob. i wish you and your wife all the best.

so the night before the wedding is, of course, the bachelor party. and what better way is there to celebrate your last night of bachelorhood than whirlyball? its probably the best game ever invented. if im not mistaken it was started by the ancient meso american civilizations. then, when the popularity of the sport spread to edmonds, they added whiffle balls, scoops, and bumper cars. they also did away with the ritualistic sacrificing of the losing team. thank goodness. my team lost every round. but even without the human sacrifices, we still had one guy who took the game just as seriously as if his life depended on it.

to make up for the break:

ive decided to post 2 times in 3 days! CRAZY. yesterday amelia and i decided to head back to eureka for the tintic gold and silver festival. the day started off right with a parade down mainstreet. i dont know for sure whether there were more people in than parade than watching it, but i have a feeling the number of spectaters was probably close to the amount of musicians in the tintic high school marching band. i had a couple of favorite parade entries. one being a man who was just walking down the middle of the road playing the squeeze box. brilliant. the other was a fireman who tossed a frisbee to a 10 year old boy. when the boy was unable to catch the frisbee, the fireman didnt hesitate to let the boy know how much he sucked. both are in this weeks video.

after the parade we wandered into the eureka mining museum where we were soon met by a man named bill. Bill had mined in eureka when he was a younger man. in fact, he had mined there for 45 years. he was kind enough to give us our own personal tour of the museum. i know what youre thinking, so what? we were probably the only ones in the museum and he was just excited to have anyone there? WRONG. there were at least 5 other people in that place at any given time who did NOT get a personal tour from bill. he also offered to take us up to the mouth of the mine next time we are in eureka.

anyways, to make a long story short, i won nothing in the auction, not even a hannah montana gift basket. i suppose it is because i didnt bid on anything. who wants to pay 50 bucks for a hannah montana gift basket?

sad news

last week i took an amazing backpacking trip down in southern utah with a class of mine. It was alot of fun and i took some brilliant video clips of the more exciting activities and some breathtaking views and geological oddities. the second day we were primarily hiking in the river, due to the dense poison ivy along certain parts of the trail...i had safely stored my camera in a ziplock back to avoid any water damage. the precaution was a success until i took a step into a deep part of the river, and heard the ziplock pop open, and that was then end of my camera. all is lost from that trip. its a real shame. im hoping somehow to open it up and retrieve any kind of data card or something and salvage the footage. it would have made an EXCELLENT blog movie.

but luckily ashleigh has the same camera and has let me use hers until i can buy myself a new one. thanks ashleigh! the night i got back from the trip, amelia and i headed to the potter household and played one of my favorite board games. i took only a few shots because i was so focused on how i could win the game while still maintaining to facade of someone who doesnt take this game as seriously as i actually do...
